601 good reasons to attend

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2011 – taking place at FIVE, Farnborough from 16-17 February – has announced further additions to its free seminar programme.

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2011 – taking place at FIVE, Farnborough from 16-17 February – has announced further additions to its free seminar programme, together with details of a special show feature highlighting emerging technologies in aerospace, medical, marine, and defence, among others.

In response to demand from exhibitors, 750m² of exhibition space has been added to the venue for 2011. Along with its co-located sister events Southern Electronics and Auto Aero, the show organiser, European Trade & Exhibition Services, is predicting that the number of exhibiting companies will pass 600 for the first time in the show's history.

Along with a wide array of engineering suppliers, the show will feature a programme of free technical seminars covering both electronics and manufacturing. The manufacturing seminars welcome Dr Phil Reeves, lead consultant with Econolyst and the GTMA, who will deliver a presentation on additive layer manufacturing and how this technology can be used as a solution for production ‘end use' parts.

David Hutchins, international consultant and Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute will examine what lessons can be drawn from the financial crisis, and from Toyota and BP's experiences about the need to refocus on quality and how that can be achieved.

In “Designing for Commercial Success” Alan Ward of Bang Creations leads delegates through the fundamentals of understanding the foundations of workable, marketable product innovation and design. One of the big hits of last year's seminar programme, this session will look at how to develop and design products that become a true commercial success.
