Active advances in machining software

Aktiv Solutions purchased Tebis CAD/CAM software for its production in 2006 and since then the company has continued to reap the rewards of the investment.

Over the years, Tebis has helped to significantly reduce programming time, increase machining productivity and improve toolpath simulation for full machine collision avoidance at the company.

Based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, Aktiv Solutions was formed by Errol Brown in 2006 with Chris Neil joining the company in 2011. It specialises in prototype model manufacturing, predominantly for the automotive sector. Tebis software has been used to drive its CNC machines for 3-axis and 5-axis machining and the company is very satisfied with the software and the results it has produced over the years.

Errol Brown, director at Aktiv Solutions, explains: “Tebis software was our first choice compared to other CAD/CAM options and during the years we have used it regularly. We can say from experience that it permits speedy programming, which enables us to complete full machine collision checks rapidly. With Tebis software we can produce parts very quickly and of the highest quality.”

Aktiv Solutions is also pleased with Tebis’s CAM automation solution supported by six cloud libraries of manufacturing data. The libraries store optimised CNC machining data for fast CAM programming through automation while also ensuring consistent machining quality. By adopting CAM automation, work pressure is reduced along with CNC and CAM work costs.

Chris Neil, fellow director of Aktiv Solutions explains: “Our machines work 24 hours per day, and we needed software that we can rely on. With Tebis what you see in the software is what you get on the machine.”

As the workshop works 24 hours a day, the company has absolute confidence in machining safety and reliability, and does not worry about unexpected machine movements.

Mr Neil also adds that the simulation and collision check/avoidance of the software is very advanced. Tebis Virtual Machine helps to plan, program, and verify NC machining operations all in the Tebis CAD/CAM programming environment. The toolpath calculation speed for large CAD models is fast and with advanced machine head collision checks included for both 3-axis and 5-axis machines, this produces a perfect toolpath every time.

Mr Brown concludes: “Tebis for us is the right software. It offers speed, quality, flexibility and safety. We also have a very close relationship with Tebis. Whenever we have needed support, we have contacted their engineers and everything has been sorted quickly and efficiently.”
