All tooled up

Guhring has expanded its threading tool program for MACH 2010 and in addition to numerous new tools for special threads, the new solid carbide taps and fluteless taps are of particular interest.

Through use of newly-developed carbide they allow maximum cutting speeds and tool life for efficient thread production in steel, cast iron and aluminium and for hard machining. At the show, visitors will be able to see: a range of solid carbide and HSS-E-PM taps that fully utilise the depth of tapping size holes due to a short chamfer lead (Form E); a series of high rigidity metric EG taps for universal applications; and titanium nickel taps – designed specifically for the production of threads in special alloys, requiring close tolerances and rigidity in highly demanding applications, such as in the aerospace industry. With Guhring's new J-taps the rigidity is increased via a reduced notch effect through use of radii in the thread. Additional exhibits include synchronous and universal taps and thread milling cutters made from solid carbide featuring optimised geometry and a facet point grind and solid carbide micro-precision drills up to 3mm diameter for drilling depths up to 15 x D with internal cooling. As well as the range of spiral fluted standard solid carbide micro-precision drills, Guhring also offers special tools as part of the ExclusiveLine which include intermediate sizes for the standard program, step tools for stepped holes or holes with countersink, special lengths drilling depths up to 30 x D, additional shank forms and, alternative coatings. Guhring's established spiral fluted RT 100 T deep hole drill for machining steel is available as a standard tool for drilling depths up to 30 x D with high feed rates and cutting speeds. Through a redesign of the tool geometry however, the company can now offer a drill capable of drilling 40 x D. For the production of deep holes in aluminium, Guhring has developed the RT 100 T ALU spiral fluted deep hole drill which offers a 15° rake angle and low friction chip resistance. The success of Guhring's drilling range has been largely due to its Carbide Ratio (RT) concept that is integral to its SuperLine program. However, further development of the range has led to the introduction of the RT 100 VA drill that incorporates geometry perfected for the machining of special alloyed materials. The standard range covers diameters from 30mm to 20mm diameters and bespoke sizes and step designs are available on request. At MACH Guhring will also exhibit a significantly expanded RF 100 program of high performance end mills that are said to ensure excellent cutting speeds, feed rates, tool life and surface finish qualities due to uneven helix geometry. A new catalogue will be available on the stand. New from Guhring in the shrink fit chuck department are the Thermo Secure Gold 3000 shrink fit chucks with length setting screw, axial force damping, locking screws and optical temperature indicator. Finally, high performance and accuracy are the predominant features of Guhring‘s HR 500 reamers and solid carbide NC reamers. HR 500 reamers excel as solid carbide tools in the diameter range up to 20mm with claimed performance levels better than cermet. New at MACH is the standard range of carbide HT500 Alu reamers. The straight fluted design with unequal flute spacing provides a reamer program to machine aluminium at feed rates higher than PCD levels. Guhring
