The Engineering Industries Association (EIA) is offering UK companies the opportunity to build their export business outside the EU by participating at leading manufacturing events in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region.

First up, The Grand Metalex, ASEAN’s largest international machine tool and metalworking technologies trade exhibition and conference will take place from 23-26 November 2016 at BITEC, in Bangkok, Thailand. Companies then have the opportunity to go on to the Manufacturing Indonesia series of events which include manufacturing, machinery, equipment, materials and services, tools and hardware, machine tools and industrial automation and logistics in Jakarta, Indonesia from 30th November to 3rd December 2016.

With over 600 million people, ASEAN's potential market is larger than the European Union or North America. It is one of the most open economic regions in the world, with total merchandise exports of over $1.2 trillion – nearly 54% of total ASEAN GDP and 7% of global exports. Member states currently comprise Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia and Brunei.

ASEAN’s physical infrastructure is critical to the economic community’s goal of establishing a single market and production base. Cross-border roads, power lines, railways and maritime development will help propel the community forward. This in turn will boost existing and new value chains or production networks worldwide.

The Engineering Industries Association has been introducing UK SME engineering companies to these events for many years and will be organising UK Pavilions at both shows. Interested parties are invited to contact: Karen Finegold on karen.finegold@eia.co.uk.
