A former marine industry heavyweight, Clive Johnson, has invested in a new business, Axiom Product Development, to offer reliable precision engineering and specialist machining and tooling services to the marine and maritime sector.

Mr Johnson, a former managing director of Magma Structures, which engineered and manufactured the world’s two tallest carbon fibre superyacht masts in Portsmouth, knows first-hand how difficult it is for marine businesses to access reliable, high-quality precision engineering services with the right skills and available capacity.

Axiom Product Development offer complex CNC machine tooling, fixtures and patterns to meet specific customer needs. The team at Axiom has decades of design and engineering experience as well as a proven history of helping customers successfully develop and manufacture precision engineered products by working directly with their client’s product designers, engineers and manufacturing experts.

In the last six months Axiom has successfully recruited a highly experienced design and manufacturing team with qualified CAD designers, toolmakers, patternmakers, machinists, engineers and support staff, all of whom have direct experience across a broad range of industries including marine and maritime.

The company operates from a purpose built 15,000ft² manufacturing facility near Chichester and has acquired the latest software, technology and machines to be able to deliver excellent service and quality engineering solutions around the clock.

Mr Johnson comments: “Having struggled to find high-quality precision engineering services with the capacity and the right skills when I was working in the marine sector, I’m delighted to have invested in this exciting, growing business which offers all the skills, engineering experience and high-quality reliability that I know is desperately sought after.

“The team at Axiom have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, a wealth of precision engineering and machining experience and are ideally located to support the local marine and maritime sector. The business is steadily growing its customer base and I hope the marine and maritime sectors will benefit from its high-quality services.”

Axiom Product Development designs and manufactures tooling and patterns for use in the manufacture of plastics and composite components for the automotive, defence, aerospace and marine industries as well as designing and producing manufacturing aids and providing milling, turning and other finishing services.
