Birchills Automotive partners with Morgan on prestigious motorsport project

Walsall-based exhaust producer, Birchills Automotive has worked alongside Morgan and AR Motorsport in the development of the complete exhaust system for the limited edition AR Plus 4.

Birchills was asked to support the 65th year of Plus 4 production, which is a mainstay of the Morgan production line. A strict limited run of 50 cars have been hand assembled and tuned by the experienced AR Motorsport technicians.

Birchills managing director, Andrew Wellings explained: “We were delighted to produce and tune the exhausts for the limited edition Morgan ARP4. Morgan is one of the most prestigious car brands in the UK, so it is fantastic for us to contribute to such a powerful and high-quality vehicle.”

Each vehicle embraces a powerful Cosworth 2.0 litre engine and offers performance and styling features beyond those of a standard Morgan. The ARP4 amplifies road performance whilst ensuring that driver comfort and usability remains paramount.

Aesthetically, the ARP4 challenged the boundaries of the traditional classic. The challenge for the design team was to echo the suggestion of modern performance and function while preserving the appeals of on-road classic motoring.

Mr Wellings continued: “This is another extension to our motorsport portfolio of work. We support top level motorsport across the UK and also Europe – we have worked on the production of exhausts for the Britcar Endurance Championship previously. It has been a pleasure to see the limited run of Morgan ARP4’s sell out with our exhausts featured.”

The new rear diffuser resolves underbody airflow resulting in increased performance. The Birchills twin tip exhausts are housed centrally. The primary materials used in most Birchills exhausts are 304 stainless steel and carbon fibre where heat permits.

“It was fantastic seeing the coverage of the ARP4 in the Telegraph and Top Gear knowing that we supplied the exhaust,” Mr Wellings concluded. “We are immensely proud of the long-lasting relationship we have established with Morgan and we look forward to continuing that in their future projects.”
