Bold as brass

Aldridge, Birmingham-based Bolton Brass is to be renamed McKechnie Brass

following acquisition by Fox Access – the investment vehicle of Midlands industrialists Peter Brown and Nick Harrison – both of whom have specific experience to bring to the new venture.

Between 1991 and 1994 Mr Harrison ran all of Trelleborg's brass operations, a time when it owned the business then named Boliden MKM. Mr Brown spent almost 20 years of his career with the company, culminating in the mid-1990s when he was managing director.

“The combination of our specific experience with this company, our wider knowledge of industrial markets and our track record of developing profitable enterprises made this acquisition very attractive to us,” Mr Harrison commented. “Working with Peter in a familiar business feels a bit like a homecoming.”

In the first of many developments that will see the company draw on its heritage as an established supplier of extruded brass, its former name of McKechnie Brass will be reintroduced. “The McKechnie brothers started the company in 1871 and it bore their name for over a century,” explained Mr Brown. “It therefore seemed obvious to us to reintroduce a name that is familiar to users of extruded brass products throughout the UK and one that is synonymous with quality of both manufacture and service.

“We have ambitious plans for the company,” he continued, “and have put together a team of advisors all of whom are also industry long servants, so that we can draw on the highest level of expertise available to us.”

As the UK's only manufacturer of extruded brass products, McKechnie Brass is able to offer customers timely supply, short leadtimes and ex-stock delivery. The company currently employs a highly trained workforce of 45 – a number which is expected to grow.
