CBM event focuses on automotive sector supply chain

The Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) has assembled a line-up of motor industry specialists for a supply chain event in the West Midlands on 22nd November 2016.

The West Bromwich-based manufacturing trade association hopes the event, named ‘How to win automotive supply chain work with OEMs’ and located at the Malvern HQ of Morgan Motor Company, will help its members understand how they can win lucrative long-term contracts with the sector's OEMs.

CBM chief executive Geraldine Bolton says it's vital that suppliers understand the complexities of tendering for work with the motor industry giants: “Demand for new cars is on course for another record high in 2016 and many of our members are looking to enter the OEM supply chains to underpin their future during an uncertain economic period,” she said.

“However, manufacturing SMEs based in the Black Country and the wider Midlands area first need to know exactly how the big brands are thinking, which is why we decided to hold this event.”

Keynote speakers during the four-hour session include Morgan's managing director Steve Morris, manufacturing expert Rachel Eade, JLR supply chain manager Michael Mychajluk, and David Robinson, manufacturing director from RBS Bank. Mike Dickinson, general manager (automotive) from the SMMT's Industry Forum, has also agreed to speak.

Ms Bolton continued: “We had a very strong line-up even before we knew Mike was coming, but were delighted that he agreed to talk about the qualifications companies need to have to win supply work.

“He’s been working for the SMMT's Industry Forum since last summer, helping British manufacturers understand how to gain a competitive advantage in this sector, and I'm sure members will be looking to benefit from his experience in the Q&A session after his presentation.”
