Chris Kenward rewarded for services to industry

Chris Kenward, process engineering manager at subcontract induction heat treatment specialist Ajax Tocco has won a prestigious ‘Meritorious Service to the Heat Treatment Industry’ award.

His achievements were recognised by both the Surface Engineering Association and the Contract Heat Treatment Association at their recent awards evening held at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.

Mr Kenward has worked in metallurgical roles for over 45 years and before moving to Ajax Tocco (then Tocco Heat Treatment) around 20 years ago, he worked for established companies such as IMI Witton, GKN Hardy Spicer and GKN Sinter Metals. During that time, Mr Kenward gained an HNC in metallurgy.

In more recent years, from 2011 to 2013, he served as the chairman of the Contract Heat Treatment Association and during his tenure took it upon himself to tackle the industry problem of a widening skills gap, developing training specific to the heat treatment sector.

At Ajax Tocco, Mr Kenward and his team provide a round the clock service with 17 production induction hardening machines operating at a variety of frequencies on a selection of handling systems to cater for one-offs through to continuous production.
