Recent opens days held by WNT (UK) at the Blackburn and Burlescombe showrooms of XYZ Machine Tools have proved to be a success with customers old and new visiting to investigate how best to improve metal cutting productivity.

“This is the first time we have held days such as these,” said Glenn Stanton, WNT's UK and Ireland sales manager. “Partnering with XYZ Machine Tools has allowed us to demonstrate our cutting tools in an environment that is conducive to serious discussions, rather than in what can be the pressured environment of the shopfloor. The result is that we have had some very positive conversations about how we can work with customers to release the full potential of their machine tools through the use of modern cutting tool technology.”

A third event is scheduled for XYZ's showroom in Nuneaton in May with other events to follow after the MACH exhibition at XYZ's London, Waltham Cross Showroom and a return to Blackburn. Interested parties are invited to contact WNT directly.

Two of the products on show that generated interest were the WNT WTX Speed solid carbide drills and HPC solid carbide milling. When drilling steel the WTX Speed drill can operate at double the conventional surface speed and up to 20% higher feedrates and at the event this was demonstrated on a block of EN3B material. The same test piece was used to put the HPC solid carbide cutters through their paces, cutting dry, a 10mm diameter cutter was talking 10mm deep cuts at 5mm step overs with virtually no noise or evidence of vibration from the machine tool.

“WNT's relationship with XYZ is proving to be very productive for both companies as our target customers, are, in the main, the same people and businesses,” said Mr Stanton. “This partnership will be carried forward at MACH where all of the demonstrations on XYZ machines will be done using WNT cutting tools.”
