Helping manufacturers generate the talent of the future has helped a UK training provider secure a prestigious award.

In-Comm Training, which operates academies in Aldridge, Bridgnorth, and Shrewsbury, picked up the title at the Made in the Midlands Awards.

The company was recognised for its entrepreneurial model in addressing the skills gap and services to industry, with judges praising the firm for its determination to deliver employer-led apprenticeships and upskilling opportunities and for the way it is continually promoting the regional manufacturing base.

Its involvement in the soon-to-be-launched £4 million Marches Centre of Manufacturing & Technology (MCMT) in Shropshire and Engineering Technology Group’s Technical Academy Network across the UK was also highlighted.

Gareth Jones, managing director of In-Comm Training, said: “We are very passionate about skills and making sure we can support industry with their growth plans. This title has been given to us by the people we are looking to help and tells us that what we are doing is working. It has been a very busy year and our staff have been brilliant…this award is for them and their efforts.

“One of our major roles going forward is to educate industry that they have a responsibility to allow young people to develop and become competent through robust programmes and off-the-job training. We’ve got to stop looking at apprenticeships as a cheap fix and ensure we don’t water down the talent finally being pumped into the sector.”

In-Comm, which was recently rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, is putting the final touches to its £1.5 million extension at its Aldridge headquarters, with the official launch planned for late January 2018.
