Dawson Shanahan announced as newest SMMT member

Leading precision engineering specialist and automotive components supplier Dawson Shanahan has been unveiled as the newest member of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The Welshpool-based firm, which has been supplying precision engineering components to automotive manufacturers around the world for the better part of a century, is now part of the Innovation and Engineering Group. Its expertise in precision cold forming and machining of components for engines, chassis and drivetrains makes it a welcome addition to the long list of automotive companies currently represented by SMMT.

Moving forward, SMMT and Dawson will be working collaboratively to ensure automotive manufacturers are better informed on the best methods for designing and manufacturing components to achieve better performance.

Dawson Shanahan is renowned for helping manufacturers extract maximum performance and efficiency from key components. It offers a complete package of services, from design and prototyping, through low and high volume production, to project management and single source agreements to help manufacturers minimise costs, reduce lead-times and improve quality and reliability of supply.

Jeff Kiernan, Dawson Shanahan’s commercial director said: “SMMT is the voice of the UK motor industry, supporting and promoting its members’ interests at home and abroad, to government, stakeholders and the media. Given our vast experience in the automotive sector it’s fitting that we’re a member.

“We’re looking forward to working alongside SMMT over the coming months and years. Their insights into the sector and networking opportunities, combined with our expertise of precision engineering make this a very exciting partnership. We’ll have greater access to the right people in the automotive sector, enabling us to support them more effectively and find a component manufacturing technique that better suits their needs.”
