FFG acquires MHD gear shaping and bevel gear machining solutions

FFG Europe & Americas, the Germany-based machine tool group with German, Swiss and Italian brands like MAG, VDF Boehringer, Hessapp, Modul, Jobs, Tacchella, Pfiffner and others, is broadening its portfolio with gear manufacturing solutions.

In March 2018, the group acquired the bevel gear generating and gear shaping machines of MHD. FFG took over all assets of the gear technology and retrofit specialist, including the exclusive rights for all products and intellectual property, enhancing the offerings for hobbing and form milling of the Modul brand and the MAG cold forming portfolio formerly marketed under the Ex-Cell-O brand.

MHD was founded in 1990 and developed from a machine tool sales agency to a service provider for various gear hobbing products, and finally a manufacturer of bevel gear generating and gear shaping machines.

The products cover straight bevel gear applications up to 350mm diameter as well as internal and external gear shaping of wheels and shafts. The products have close ties to the Modul brand as some of them are partly based on original Modul knowhow. The acquisition extends FFG’s capacities as full technology provider for soft machining of geared workpieces in various shapes, sizes and complexities for the automotive, engineering, agricultural, material handling and other industries.

MHD’s business and machine series’ will be continued under the Modul brand at FFG. The group plans to strengthen innovation, market reach, service and retrofit for the MHD and other products. At the AMB show in Stuttgart this September, visitors will have the chance to learn more about the joined capabilities and the new Modul power skiving machine.

In the UK, FFG is represented by Birmingham-based MT Squared.
