All fibre line up ahead for laser cutting firm

Leading sheet metal subcontractor Accurate Laser Cutting is set to further improve its processing capabilities by adding a second new fibre laser to its plant line up.

The company, which specialises in laser cutting and pressbraking, celebrated its 10th anniversary last year with a number of breakthrough investments including a £500,000 expansion plan, doubling the size of its Oldbury headquarters and a fibre laser and pressbrake facility.
Accurate is now ready to strengthen its manufacturing processes even further with plans to replace existing CO2 equipment with a brand new fibre laser: “Technology has advanced so quickly over the past twelve months for us that we’re now considering seriously considering an all fibre line up,” explained company director Steve Morgan.

“We are now looking to take possession of an 8-10kW model which will have the capability of processing materials up to five times faster than a CO2 laser and offer a significant increase in cut quality across the entire thickness range.”

The firm’s decision to replace its CO2 cutting equipment follows on from the success of investment in a 6kW 4m by 2m fibre laser last year. Since it was commissioned, customer lead-times have been considerably reduced, now averaging on one to two days, and overall production efficiencies have increased by 50%. The requirement for secondary operations is also minimised due to the use of nitrogen cutting gases, achieving a much cleaner cut.

As a result of the equipment’s fast processing speeds and low operational costs, the business anticipates its next investment will provide even greater benefits for customers: “In my opinion, fibre laser technology represents the future of the laser cutting industry,” commented company director Jon Till.

“Not only will it offer greater accuracy on parts; it also has offers massive energy saving benefits due to its minimal power requirements and zero gas consumption rates. We can pass these efficiencies onto our customers.”
