Fluid partnerships: Houghton collaborates with Filtermist UK

Fluid services specialist Houghton partnered with Telford-based Filtermist UK earlier this year to supply a bespoke oil mist extraction system for a new production line at Honda’s flagship production facility in Swindon.

Designed to remove any oil mist from six new Grob machining centres alongside a cleaning station, the system, an Absolent A.mist 80TF, ensures Honda’s production line is compliant with COSHH regulations whilst protecting its production team.

Houghton has provided Honda with its comprehensive metalworking FluidCare service for over a decade and continue to support the car manufacturer in all aspects of operational and process improvements.

Rob Davey’s, UK equipment business development manager at Houghton was pleased to get Filtermist involved in the project: “Our main objective is to support our clients in all aspects of their fluid maintenance,” he explained. “We called in Filtermist's expertise on this project to gain a bespoke perspective of the task at hand. This installation has further deepened Houghton’s relationship with Honda and strengthened our technical partnership with Filtermist UK.”

Working alongside Houghton, Filtermist commissioned and installed the state-of-the-art extraction unit – a three-stage filtration system that sees the contaminated air pass through two self-straining filter cassettes before passing through a final high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter.

Also fitted with a frequency inverter control, the system is designed to optimise the process of extraction whilst continuously measuring the duct pressure, ensuring optimum performance and energy efficiency.

Matthew Pearson, UK sales manager at Filtermist was very satisfied with the outcome of the project: “Filtermist has worked with Houghton for more than ten years and it’s a partnership that is going from strength to strength. The synergies between the two companies are obvious and we were delighted to be able to collaborate with them to ensure that Honda benefits from the best oil mist extraction system possible.”

The extraction system will be fully operational when production on the line starts in September with both Houghton and Filtermist closely monitoring the extraction levels over a six-month period to ensure legalisation compliancy.
