Full of functionality

Acu-rite has almost half a decade of experience in digital readouts, CNC and precision glass scales.

With almost half a decade of experience in digital readouts, CNC and precision glass scales, the Acu-Rite products on display at MACH will focus on the capabilities and benefits of its Vue, 200S and 300S DRO systems, as well as the MillPwr CNC and the SENC 150 and SENC 50 scales. The Acu-Rite Vue 1- to 3-axis digital readout is an easy to use and cost-effective entry-level DRO system that can transform the performance and operation of manual milling, turning and grinding machines. Displaying full text on a LCD, the system's credentials are further enhanced by its availability as a ready to use package with high end SENC 150 precision glass linear encoders. Vue's standard functionality embraces, for example, job clock, feed rate display, absolute/incremental, near-zero warning, 16 tool offsets/diameters, preset and zero reset, trig calculator and instant inch/mm conversion in addition to a content sensitive help function. Specific functions for milling include graphically supported bolt hole pattern calculations (full and partial circles/linear patterns) and centreline calculation, while for turning the system also features ‘lock axis' functionality (to establish tool offsets under load), and instant radius and diameter compensation. The Acu-Rite 200S is a user-friendly, cost-competitive DRO that, from a single unit, can be quickly and easily configured for 2- or 3-axis milling, turning or grinding applications. The 200S displays all prompts, instructions and help functions as text or graphics on its flat screen, 5.7 inch, 320 x 240 resolution LCD display. All standard routines are visible on the screen and graphics guide users through the simple questions. For milling, the system is supplied as standard with bolt hole pattern calculations for full and partial circles with graphics, zero reset and preset features, tool diameter compensation and near zero warning, for example. For, turning, the system features include taper turning functionality and 16 tool offsets that, when used with the axis lock feature, ensures tool deflection is reduced even under load. Grinding and general use applications for the 200S are based around the system's zero reset, linear error compensation, instant radius to diameter and inch to mm conversions, as well as absolute/incremental display features. RS232 port and workpiece probing functionality is provided as standard. The Acu-Rite 300S is a 2- to 4-axis DRO characterised by its ease of use and its colour screen. It has extensive I/O capability and encoder inputs for four independent axes and is capable of storing up to 1,000 blocks of information – which can include as sub-routines 10 PCDs with up to 99 holes each or 10 linear patterns with up to 999 positions. The system can also accommodate data for 16 tools and 10 sub-datums with system functionality also including automatic trigonometry calculations and hole skewing routines. Acu-Rite's SENC 150 precision glass scale technology is based on the use of reflective light for measurement and has a reader head mounted on its top face. This highly durable scale features advanced roller bearing technology for reduced backlash and greater scale travel life. The result is available resolutions of 0.5, 1 and 5 microns, highly resistant to machine inaccuracies and vibration. The SENC 150 is available in lengths of 50mm to 3.4m and it features Acu-Rite's exclusive Position-Trac functionality that allows operators to accurately and quickly re-establish workpiece zero from any position after a power interruption. Once power is restored, the DRO reads a line pattern on the glass scale to recall the last known zero. Also on show, the ultra slimline SENC 50 precision glass scale offers resolutions of 0.5, 1 and 5 microns and is available in lengths of 25mm to 0.5m. The Acu-Rite display will also showcase the 2-/3-axis MillPwr CNC, which is a conversational system that requires no previous CNC experience and can be used either as a full-function DRO or as a programmable CNC. Its control offers easy to understand operator feedback and everything expected in terms of functionality – from bolt hole/PCD cycles, rectangular, circle pocket and irregular pocket milling, to island and boss features, spiral, ellipse, mirror image, rotate, repeat set-up and 2D/2.5D contouring as well as tool library, shrinkage scaling, trig and geometry calculator and power editing tools.
