A global get together of motorsport expertise

Autosport International, Europe’s premier pre-season motorsport show, returns to the NEC, Birmingham from 11-14 January 2018, with two dedicated trade days on 11-12, bringing together the world’s leading companies from the performance engineering, automotive and motorsport sectors.

Autosport Engineering, the dedicated area within Autosport International, is the heart of innovation and technology within the motorsport business and automotive sectors, offering a dedicated B2B environment attracting over 250 specialist companies from across comprising companies such as Brembo, Hewland and Xtrac.

The show creates a global hub for companies to do business, with exhibitors attending from numerous countries including the United States, where ARP (stand E670) is based. The company develops and produces engine and driveline fasteners, in addition to providing quality OEM replacement parts for speciality hardware.

With more than 49 years’ experience, the company’s equipment is used in global motorsport series such as Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR and NHRA drag racing, in addition to marine, aerospace and oil and gas applications.

Autosport Engineering is also host to a range of exciting new product launches. World-leaders in high-quality pit lane and garage equipment solutions, Greaves 3D (stand E1140), will be launching a new fuel measurement technology product at Autosport International. More details about the development, which is set to herald a new era of recordability and networkability accuracy in fuel technology, will be offered on the trade days of the show.

In general, it’s an event that attracts innovative companies, such as Advanced Fuel Systems (stand E481). The specialist fuel safety cell manufacturer creates products for the marine, motorsport, air and defence sectors, most notably the monolithic FIA-approved fuel cells seen in the Bloodhound SSC car. The supersonic car has four of Advanced Fuel Systems safety cells, each containing 550 litres of jet fuel. The pumps are capable of delivering fuel at a rate of 20 litres/second to the jet engine.

The show is not only seeing companies returning year after year, but it is also attracting new exhibitors.

Returning to Autosport Engineering in January is Viraver (stand E351), one of the world’s foremost companies focused on the production of glazing for the transport industry. It specialises in the design and manufacturing of composite windscreens, glass and polycarbonate windows set for show cars, prototypes and racing cars.

For the first time, Pakelo Oil (stand E250) is heading to the show. The Italian company formulates, produces and distributes vanguard lubricants worldwide, meeting top OEMs’ and international specifications in different application fields such as automotive, racing, motorcycle, heavy duty, earthmoving and agricultural, industry, food industry.

Another exhibitor at the trade show will be HB Bearings (stand E873). The company’s motorsport division is able to offer a low volume, high quality, bespoke bearing manufacturing service.

A recent example was its collaboration with the Padgett's of Batley racing team where the company was asked to manufacture bespoke bearings for the Isle of Man Classic TT race.

The bearings, of non-standard dimensions, were manufactured within a three-week lead-time and were required for a 1993 Honda RS250 ridden by Bruce Anstey. Mr Anstey rode the same Honda for Padgett's (also with HB Bearings parts) the previous year setting a new lap speed of 118.774mph, breaking a course record, which was set way back in 1999.

In August this year, Mr Anstey finished first. Riding the Padgett's 1993 RS250 Honda in the Dunlop Lightweight Classic TT race, he also achieved the Best Lap time of 120.475mph.

Due to ever increasing interest in classic and historic car and motorcycle racing, HB Bearings cater strongly for this sector as well. The company has manufactured numerous bearings for all types of classic and historic racing machines. The company says bearings can be reverse engineered from original samples if no other information is available.

New exhibitors are not the only changes for 2018. This year the show includes a new business area to help exhibitors do business in a formal and appropriate style. These new meeting areas are to be created across the show floor for international businesses to come into the show and conduct talks in private. The Autosport Engineering press office will also offer exhibitors an area to publish the latest news and conduct business talks and interviews in a private environment.
