Goodman Metal Works investing in the future

With a long history of innovation and adaptability, Goodman Metal Works (GMW) has embarked on a significant investment program in its machining capabilities.

Looking for the right machinery is a complex business and all the more challenging with the larger type of fabrications that run through the company’s production facility.

TW Ward assisted with establishing the specification and sourcing necessary to meet Goodman’s requirements. The latest investment is a Hartford PBM135 CNC 10 ton 3m x 2.5m horizontal boring/milling machining centre that joins an Infinity HSA 420 vertical machining centre (8 ton pallet loading with a 4m x 2m working envelope) and a PBM115B horizontal mill/boring machine with live spindle (8 ton 1.4m x 1.6m) from the same supplier.

“The latest addition takes the total spend just over £1.25m and puts GMW in an enviable position within the UK manufacturing fraternity,” enthused managing director, Richard Goodman. “A complementary buoyant orderbook is keeping all of the new stablemates very busy and positioned well for the future.”

Not only is Goodman investing in its own business, the company is also helping the engineers of the future enjoy success. As a sponsor of the Sheffield University Formula Student, an IMechE initiative https://www.imeche.org/events/formula-student, the firm was delighted to see its sponsored team become overall winners of the 2021 Formula Student event at Silverstone and clean up with eight of the 13 awards going to the team including Sprint Winner, Endurance Winner, Design Winner, Static Event Winner and Internal Combustion Efficiency Winner.
