Haas expands 5-axis range

Haas Automation has unveiled the latest addition to its extensive 5-axis machining centre range – the UMC 350 HD.

This high-performance machine is the result of Haas’ commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction and is built on the foundation of two of Haas' most popular platforms. The new model combines the industry-proven DM-1 high-speed drill/mill centre with the versatility of the TRT210 dual-axis tilting rotary table to create a lean-style UMC that's ideal for the 3+2 and simultaneous 5-axis machining of small parts.

With a 40-taper 10,000rpm spindle (15,000rpm optional) and a 381 x 356 x 305mm work envelope, the UMC-350 HD is designed to provide ample space for intricate machining processes while ensuring accuracy and precision are not compromised. In addition, it features 61m/minute rapids, and its 18+1 side mount tool changer has a chip-to-chip time of just 1.6 seconds.

The UMC 350 HD uses the TRT210 to provide full 5-axis capabilities, allowing for multi-sided machining and increased production efficiency. The TRT210 features a 210mm diameter platter with a load capacity of 91kg and has maximum speeds of 80°/second tilt and 100°/second rotary. It also includes a high-resolution absolute encoder for precise positioning and repeatability.

The new machine includes control software that compensates automatically for varying part set-ups in both 3+2 axis machining (using 'Dynamic Work Offset') or 5-axis continuous machining (using 'Tool Centre Point Control').

TCPC enables an operator to send the same program to any Haas 5-axis UMC, regardless of minor disparities between the actual and programmed part position on the table. After performing a probing cycle (a wireless Renishaw probe is included with the machine), it automatically adjusts and then starts machining.
