Hand in hand

A partnership has been established between Dormer Tools and Heller following the installation of an FT 4000 machine at Dormer's facility on the Advanced Manufacturing Park in South Yorkshire.

The Heller investment will enable Dormer to take a step-forward in providing expert support to businesses across the UK on their milling, threading and drilling applications.

The FT 4000 is one of the most powerful machines of its type and will ensure Dormer has the technology to offer practical demonstrations for a wide range of engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Dormer's customer surgeries for example will now offer customer specific solutions using the new machining centre to improve manufacturing and process efficiency. This not only provides Dormer with the opportunity to demonstrate its progress in product development but also allows Heller to showcase the power and flexibility of the machine.

Heller's 5-axis high-torque machining technology is already being used at Dormer by international organisations such as Bosch and Goodrich, where a number of projects are being undertaken. Heller continues to field a number of enquiries following a successful Farnborough Airshow during 2010.

It allows us to provide expert consultancy and the ability to validate cost savings and process efficiency in a well equipped facility. The advanced machining technology offered by the FT-400 will enhance our capabilities significantly and highlight the benefits of using our cutting tools.”

Geoff Lloyd, Heller's managing director added: “We have a number of demonstration machines across Europe, but we have chosen the Dormer facility at the Advanced Manufacturing Park as the key location to house our UK machine.

“Dormer has developed a longstanding reputation for excellence in cutting tool technology and we see this as the ideal opportunity to showcase our machine and how it can work hand in hand with the latest in cutting tool innovations. It provides both Heller and Dormer with the ideal demonstration facility.”

Heller manufactures a wide range of machining centres at its UK manufacturing plant, based in Redditch. The company's central location offers considerable advantages in terms of service, spare parts and engineering support for both its UK and European customers. Dormer's partnership with Heller follows its recent joint venture development with Hexagon Metrology and Kelch which will see various products from both parties used extensively at Dormer's UK facility.
