AMB, the international exhibition for metalworking, will take place from 18-22 September 2012 at the Messe Stuttgart.

According to the show organiser, all exhibition space – spanning nine halls and 105,200m² of real estate – has been booked out for months already with more than 1,300 exhibitors expected to participate and around 25% coming from outside Germany. In total, there will be 27 countries represented with Switzerland traditionally leading the way, followed by Italy, Spain and Japan. There will also be exhibitors coming from Australia, Brazil, Russia, Korea and the USA. More than 90,000 trade visitors are expected.

Space was indeed at a premium this year as Ulrich Kromer, managing director of Messe Stuttgart explained: “We could have filled one or two more standard sized halls – space we unfortunately don't have. There are long waiting lists for halls four and six where the peripherals and special machinery will be housed. In other areas, some exhibitors were unable to get the exhibition spaces they wanted. Any exhibitor that had registered by the official registration deadline of 30th June 2011 was offered a stand space. It got significantly harder after that.”

As always, metalcutting will be the main thrust of the show with three distinct areas of: machine tools; physico-chemical process machines; and precision tools. Supporting these area will be suppliers of ancillary technology such as measurement technology and quality assurance, robotics, workpiece and tool handling, software and engineering, as well as parts, components and accessories.

For convenience, the turning machines and machining centres will be located in adjacent halls d milling machines, as well as the machining centres, will be located in the adjacent halls three, five, seven and nine.

Precision tools will be in halls one and two with the peripheral suppliers located opposite the machine tool halls: software and engineering, controls and other equipment will be in hall four; sawing, drilling and gear machinery will be in hall six and grinding and deburring machines in hall eight.

AMB will also host a programme of complementary seminars from leading associations, research institutes and universities covering issues such as sustainability and the promotion of technologies and processes which can help reduce energy consumption. In addition, recognising the engineering skills gap that is affecting many manufacturing nations throughout the world, AMB will use dedicated themed areas to showcase the benefits of pursuing a career in manufacturing.
