Innovative threading solutions on show

Yamawa's VU Series of taps
Yamawa's VU Series of taps

Yamawa, the Japanese manufacturer of taps and solutions for internal and external threading, is celebrating 100 years of business this year.

The cutting tool maker will be exhibiting some of its latest products and innovations at the Global Industrie trade show in held in Lyon from March 7-10 through its French distributor Bema SAS.

Of interest to visitors is its VU Z-Pro series of machine taps, the evolution of high-performance tapping. The series includes coated spiral pointed taps for through holes (VUPO) and coated spiral fluted taps for blind holes (VUSP) designed for use in the most modern multifunction machining centres.

They can be used with both emulsion machining fluids and cutting oils, to ensure maximum production flexibility and machining quality. The range of VU Z-PRO Series products now also includes the long version (JIS standard), the VUSP CH type with central coolant hole, and the VUSP 1.5P spiral fluted tap with a chamfer length of 1.5 pitches.

VU taps are made from a special Super Premium Steel (HSSP) according to Yamawa. They feature an innovative cutting edge and unique flute shape that reduces cutting forces. This results in a more stable and reliable tapping process. The special coating is designed to maximize performance when used with emulsions.

Also on show as part of the Z-PRO series is the AUSP Series for outstanding thread surfaces for pipe threads, in both G/Rp – parallel - e Rc(PT) – tapered pipe thread versions.

The MHSL Mini Series

To maintain the focus on high reliability, Yamawa has recently introduced its innovative MHSL Mini taps, a series specifically designed to produce reliable screw threads on milling bodies or indexable holders.

MHSL are part of the MH Z-PRO Series that guarantees outstanding results on medium-hardness carbon steels and alloy steels (25÷35 HRC). The size range is typical e.g. M2.5 - M3 - M3.5 - M4 - M4.5 - M5 - MF5x0.5. They are suitable for through hole tapping of thermal refining steels less than 45 HRC hardness.

The substrate HSSCo used combines toughness and wear resistance and MHSL Mini taps can therefore be successfully used on steels such as 1.7225 – 42 CrMo 4, 1.6582 – 34 CrNiMo 6 o 1.2344 – X 40 CrMoV 5. The special coating guarantees longer tool life and better thread finishing, while the innovative flute geometry promotes smooth and reliable chip ejection.

To highlight the importance of the French market for Yamawa’s business, the management of Yamawa Europe will be present at Bema’s booth and available to meet visitors to introduce them to all Yamawa’s products, and the activities scheduled in 2023 to celebrate the milestone of 100 years in business of the Japanese company.

They will be on (Booth 3B182) at the Global Industrie Show.
