Since the UK launch of the German-built KASTOwin range of bandsawing machines in June this year 10 of the new machines have now been sold to UK customers

Since the UK launch of the German-built KASTOwin range of bandsawing machines in June this year and following practical demonstrations at Sawing Days during September in Milton Keynes, 10 of the new machines have now been sold to UK customers. Managing director of Kasto UK, Ernst Wagner, confidently expects the number to top 15 this year, while global sales now exceed 150.

At the AMB machine tool show in Stuttgart during September, the machine was awarded the accolade of ‘most innovative cut-off machine tool'. The second largest model, KASTOwin 8.6 made its first public appearance outside the manufacturer's factory in Achern, Germany. The range comprises five models covering a cutting range from 330mm to 1,060mm and all have been designed to manage the vibration that naturally occurs during operation, leading to longer blade life and more accurate cuts.

Mr Wagner commented: “We have really ruffled a few feathers in the industry with these machines, as the price point is so competitive yet the capability is very high.

“Series manufacture at our German factory keeps the build price down. The use of innovative control technology including the elimination of dwell time, and electric downfeed via ballscrews rather than using hydraulics, also provide economies and at the same time raise performance well above what one would normally expect at this level of investment.”

He went on to say that the KASTOwin range allows the company to compete realistically for the first time in the lower volume, price sensitive non-ferrous and steel stockholding sectors.

However, the bandsaws are universally applicable to a wide range of industries. The high speed range enables economical cutting of aluminium, while the rigidity allows stainless steel and exotics like nickel and titanium alloys to be cut with either a bimetal or a carbide blade, albeit more slowly than on the company's top-end KASTOtec machines designed for use with carbide.
