Keep cool under pressure

Given the availability of high-speed machines that offer standard or optional 70 bar coolant systems with through-spindle delivery, High Pressure Coolant (HPC) technology has become much more accessible.

As a leader in the field, Iscar has developed and launched hundreds of advanced HPC turning tools, designed for a wide variety of challenging applications.

Prompted by demand from the company’s global customer base, and following the successful performance of its PCHR/L-24-JHPtools, Iscar has applied the coolant channel option to tools intended for Penta 34 inserts, for standard (6-10 bar) and high pressure coolant (up to 340 bar). The new PCHR/L-34-JHP tools are available with 16, 20 and 25mm shanks, extending their grooving depth capability to 10mm.

Iscar’s HPC solutions have been employed by customers throughout the world on turning applications involving difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium and Inconel. When used with Penta 34 inserts, the new PCHR/L-34-JHP tools help to reduce, or even eliminate the undesirable built-up edge phenomenon, especially when used to machine stainless steel and high temperature alloys.

The tools deliver impressive removal rates, up to three times greater than conventional flood coolant systems and Iscar claims they also increase tool life by up to 100% when machining titanium, heat resistant materials, stainless steel and alloy steel.

As the coolant stream is not interrupted by the chips, as occurs with external flushing coolant, Iscar HPC users report the elimination of chip jamming, faster cutting and significantly longer edge life when performing outer and inner diameter turning, grooving, parting and hole making.
