Keeping cutting fluids under control

During the current Covid-19 pandemic, manufacturing companies have had to adjust the way they work to maximise safety.

This includes having fewer people onsite at the same time through shift working, reducing external visitors to only those that are deemed essential, and only utilising certain machines to enable safe social distancing between employees.

These measures highlight the importance of monitoring and managing the condition of metalworking fluids when regular site visits from the supplier are not possible.

With this scenario in mind, Carillion Industrial Services (CIS) has developed its comprehensive Coolant Care Software package which comprises: CCS (Coolant Care Solutions); CCC (Coolant Care Companion); CCM (Coolant Care Monitor); and CCW (Coolant Care Workstation).

This is a web-based cloud app system compatible with Apple iOS and Android mobile phone operating systems and devices. The freely available software enables ease of coolant data entry, collation and presentation as well as remedial prompts if the cutting fluid has strayed outside of its recommended parameters.

From a safeguarding perspective, the software guarantees coolant management accountability to HSE coolant management guidelines. Operationally, the Coolant Care package ensures component integrity. It is not limited to any specific coolant brand.

The software allows the user to map out a manufacturing facility into machine departments or cell groups, maintaining a complete audit trail. All product MSDS and TDS documentation is stored and is easily accessible.

Data captured includes coolant concentration, pH, tramp oil, bacteria and fungi levels and any additives used. According to CIS, it takes no more than 20 minutes to set-up, assign machines, and configure user security/accessibility levels. As the package is web-based, it requires no additional software installations to operate. CIS can also offer remote assistance through the software.

Clive Judd, lubricants manager for Carillon Industrial Service commented: “Our CIS Coolant Care software was launched last September and we already over 350 companies and in excess of 4,000 machines using and benefitting from this very comprehensive tool. It has never been so applicable as in today’s climate”
