Machining excellence from Kyal – MACH 2022

The M20 MillTurn is the latest addition to the WFL range
The M20 MillTurn is the latest addition to the WFL range

Kyal Machine Tools is back exhibiting at MACH 2022. The company is the UK and Ireland representative for a number of leading brands including WFL MillTurn machines, Weiler precision lathes, Hembrug hard turning and Mitsui Seiki.

With over 160,000 units sold, Weiler is currently a market leader for engine lathes and cycle-controlled lathes. At MACH on the Kyal stand, the company will be exhibiting the ultra-compact, high performance Weiler E30

Another Kyal principal, Hembrug Machine Tools, develops and manufactures high precision, fully hydrostatic turning and hybrid lathes with hard turning and fine grinding capabilities. Its Mikroturn lathes offer high accuracy and are supplied worldwide to companies in a wide span of sectors including bearing manufacturing, machine building and tool and mould making.

WFL customers enjoy tailor-made solutions which is one of the reasons it strives to integrate a wide range of technologies, measuring tasks, finish machining operations, gear teeth processing and more into its MillTurn machining centres.

At MACH the machines will feature on the Kyal stand. In the aerospace sector, WFL MillTurns are used mainly for parts like landing gear components, different types of turbine shafts, fuel pump housings and other components.

Reducing the amount of clampings decreases the risk of errors and consequently improves process efficiency and integrated automatic measuring solutions ensure process quality control. These measurement readings can be recorded and monitored in the WFL Process Monitoring advanced software.

MillTurn machines excel when machining large landing gear components. The ridged design of the machine centring around a 60° slant bed enables the customer to perform deep ID machining operations and avoid additional clamping in a dedicated machine, resulting in better quality, less floor space and reduced operational costs.

In terms of productivity benefits gained from using WFL’s machine tools, the main advantage is the reduction in the number of different machines required to produce a part. Furthermore, a large tool magazine helps in changeover times since all tools can be kept in the machine for different parts or different clamping processes.

WFL provides turnkey solutions that include production strategy, tool selection and programming in addition to the machine itself. WFL’s range of technology expertise includes ID machining, bottle boring operations and facing head operations for eccentric turning. All the benefits of complete machining for aerospace work are employed.

WFL’s latest additions for the manufacturing of large parts include the M175 for up to 1,700mm swing and heavy workpieces and the M175LS (Large Swing) for up to 2,000mm swing for medium workpiece weights. This is a particularly interesting machine for the aerospace industry since it can swing many large landing gear components, as well as large discs.

At the other end of the MillTurn spectrum is the M20 which comprises two single tool carriers with automatic tool change, as well as fully integrated automatic loading and unloading of parts.
