Land speed legend Richard Noble is to be guest speaker at this year's North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) youth awards, set to honour the region's brightest and best.

The NWAA New Talent Awards will take place on Thursday, February 3rd at the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester.

Richard Noble specialises in high risk adventure, and famously masterminded the World Land Speed Record in 1997 with the Thrust SSC (supersonic car) programme. He is now the director of the Bloodhound project, attempting to break the current record by reaching speeds of 1,000mph.

Mr Noble will address the audience at the New Talent Awards, which are designed to recognise the achievements of some of the North West's young engineers, organisations, training providers and universities.
The Bloodhound director will be following young speaker Anthony Stagg, senior propulsion engineer at BAE Systems and former NWAA youth ambassador.

During the award ceremony, sponsored by Rolls-Royce, Unison Engine Components, BAE Systems, Training 2000, MBDA , Xchanging HR Services and Nelson and Colne College, winners will be announced for five trophies. These include North West Best Aerospace/Defence Apprentice and the Sir Frank Whittle Award, honouring apprentices and students in the North West, and the institutions that support them.

Martin Wright, chief executive of the NWAA, said: “It is an honour to have such a high profile speaker to help celebrate the region's finest young engineering talent.

“Young people are key to the future of the aerospace industry and it is vital that we ensure they receive the best training and development possible, and recognise excellence in their work. There are also some fantastic training providers out there doing some outstanding work to support these young engineers, and it is just as important to honour them.”
