Cutting tools up to 700mm long (and from 3mm to 200mm diameter) can be produced on the new Helitronic Vision Long, multi-axis tool grinder launched at this year's GrindTex show by Walter Machines UK.
The machine can process extra-long carbide, HSS, ceramic, cermet and CBN tooling including milling cutters, drills, step drills, and woodworking and profiling tools of 3mm to 200mm diameter and can perform peripheral edge grinding up to 580mm.
A derivative of Walter's successful Helitronic Vision tool grinder, the new machine likewise features high performance linear and torque motors as well as digital drives complementing a polymer or mineral cast machine base and patented gantry design for extreme rigidity.
The machine's spindle power is 35kW/10,000rpm and grinding wheels up to 254mm diameter can be accommodated. A wheel changer offers a standard storage of 12 wheels, optionally 24, and workpiece load/unload can be performed via a 6-axis CNC Fanuc robot.
