Yamazaki Mazak is set to open the doors of its state-of-the-art production facilities to members of the public as part of the inaugural National Manufacturing Day, on Thursday 7th July.

National Manufacturing Day, which is being coordinated by Make UK, aims to showcase the broad range of skilled, well-paid and rewarding career opportunities available to school leavers and graduates, as well and those looking to reskill at all levels.

The Worcester-based manufacturer, a global leader in the design and production of advanced CNC machine tools and laser processing machines, is one of many organisations who will be taking part in the UK-wide open house event. Other participants include a number of manufacturers which deploy Mazak machine tools as part of their operations, such as A&M EDM, Grantham Engineering, JJ Churchill and Precision Engineering.

As part of its National Manufacturing Day Open House, Mazak will be offering visitors guided tours of its European Manufacturing Plant. The site produces over 1,000 machine tools a year, including the highly popular entry-level CV5-500 5-axis machining centre as well as the VCN-700 and VCE-600 next generation vertical machining centres.

Those attending the event will also be able to explore its European Technology Centre and Solutions Gallery, which will feature a number of live cutting demonstrations on Mazak machines as well as completed workpieces from a broad array of industrial subsectors.

Attendees will also be able to talk to current Mazak apprentices and graduates, as well as those who have completed their training, about the diverse range of entry points to a career in manufacturing. With Mazak also promoting a number of current vacancies as part of its sustained growth, visitors may even be able to use the event to make some initial enquiries into a career in manufacturing.

Richard Smith, European group managing director at Yamazaki Mazak, commented: “Having worked in manufacturing for over 35 years, I’d be hard pressed to think of a more exciting time to get involved. From automation to artificial intelligence, the definition of what is possible is constantly being rewritten thanks to the level of innovation within our industry.

“National Manufacturing Day is a fantastic opportunity to gain inside knowledge of our exciting and diverse industry. Whether you are a student, a school leaver considering an apprenticeship, part of the local community, or a more experienced worker looking at reskilling, the open event will allow you to see the inside of fully-operational smart factory and talk directly to the people behind the scenes of manufacturing excellence.”
