Yamazaki Mazak UK celebrated the company’s 100-year anniversary by hosting a day of festivities and fun for all of its Worcestershire employees and their families at Drayton Manor Theme Park.

The machine tool manufacturer, whose European headquarters have been based in Worcester since 1987, celebrated its centenary by treating over a thousand people to a day at the world-famous tourist attraction.

“Despite its size and global manufacturing capability, Mazak remains a family business both in terms of its ownership and its culture. A family day out at Drayton Manor Theme Park was the perfect way for us to celebrate our centenary together,” said Richard Smith, European group managing director at Yamazaki Mazak.

Mazak was established in 1919 in Nagoya, Japan making machines for mat weaving and has since grown into one of the world’s largest manufacturers of machine tools with 10 manufacturing sites across the world.

The company’s European headquarters and manufacturing site, based in Worcester, employs more than 600 workers. The facility, one of the most advanced manufacturing sites in the world, produces more than 1,000 machine tools every year for use by UK machine tool users and also for export to Europe.

Mr Smith continued: “I’m thrilled that so many turned out for this wonderful event to celebrate our centenary. This was our way of saying thank you for everyone’s hard work, both in terms of manufacturing our machines and also their contribution to making Mazak a great place to work.”
