Mollart appoints Ian Petitt as managing director

In his new role as managing director of Mollart Engineering, Ian Petitt has set a 10-year target to progressively build the business from a £17 million operation to a £30 million turnover international company with enhanced return on investment to support its machine tool sales, tooling and subcontract manufacturing operations.

Mr Petitt has been employed by Mollart for some 22 years of which 18 have been served in the role of sales director which has returned highly successful worldwide sales for its machine tool operations. Orders have been frequently won against very competitive international deep hole drilling companies to supply machines to the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, India, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe.

Said Mr Petitt: “Mollart is an international UK business with a very strong and experienced team in deep hole drilling technology that has led to well over 95% of the 1,000 machines built being exported. In running the business, I will draw further on our international reputation and experience to continue to enhance our success in the customisation of our standard machine build portfolio and special application development which often involves automation and bespoke solutions for customers.”

In addition, he maintains the strong production engineering legacy involved in the subcontract operations of Mollart Engineering being a key element in the future expansion of the business plus a growing demand for deep hole drilling and surface finish tooling providing the third leg in support of the overall operation.

Mr Petitt regards himself as a toolmaker by trade and a qualified production engineer. He has been involved in the machine tool industry since leaving further education and has worked in sales, including 16 years as sales engineer for UK-based special purpose and machining centre build companies before joining Mollart.

Mollart was originally founded by Arthur Mollart in 1929 and produced its first gundrill machine in 1965. It now employs 140 people with machine tool build, subcontract machining and tooling based at the Chessington headquarters. In the recently expanded Resolven facility in South Wales, Mollart houses further subcontract and assembly plus a rapidly expanding fabrication facility.
