Ultra high precision horizontal spindle machining centres and special purpose machines manufactured by Burkhardt+Weber are now being sold in the UK and Ireland by Geo Kingsbury under a new sole agency agreement signed in February 2014.

Part of Brazil's largest machine tool manufacturing group, Indústrias Romi SA, Burkhardt+Weber has been producing machine tools at its Reutlingen site in Germany since 1888 and today employs 220 staff.

The firm is best known for supplying equipment to the high volume automotive manufacturing sector. The MCX and MCR machining centres and mill/turn centres are frequently to be found producing large engine blocks to tight tolerances while the special machines are aimed at the manufacture of crankcases, cylinder heads, gearbox housings, crankshafts, camshafts, bearing caps and con rods.

Power generation and aerospace are further target markets as Burkhardt+Weber's powerful machines are equally well suited to cutting difficult materials such as Inconel, Duplex, Super duplex and titanium alloys. The company regularly supplies to other industries as well, including oil and gas, printing, paper, packaging, hydraulics, steelmaking and mining as well as the machine tool manufacturing sector itself.

Geo Kingsbury's managing director, Richard Kingsbury commented, "Burkhardt+Weber machines fit perfectly into our milling portfolio which includes other high quality brands, namely SHW and F Zimmermann at the larger capacity end and Hermle, which makes small to medium size machines.

"By design, all of our principals are located in Baden-Württemberg, Southern Germany as it is renowned for its top class machine tool builders. We also represent CNC turning centre manufacturer, Index and its subsidiary, Traub which are located in the same area."
