Next-generation 3D laser scanning from Zeiss

Metrology specialist, Zeiss has announced the release a new, lightweight, next-generation handheld 3D laser scanner, designed from the ground up to be powerful yet intuitive and simple to use.

Manufactured in Germany, the Zeiss T-Scan hawk 2 is a reliable, portable system that can be used across multiple applications and industries, featuring a new satellite mode to scan objects several metres away.

The T-Scan hawk 2 can capture data with metrology-grade precision wherever needed: in quality control or reverse engineering, maintenance, repair and overhaul. It adapts easily to the movement of the operator’s hand and features a workflow assistant as well as the option to start and navigate the workflow directly. Users can operate the software directly from the scanner itself – a separate laptop isn’t necessary.

For users that like to go big, the Zeiss T-Scan hawk 2 is claimed by the manufacturer to be the first portable laser scanner a satellite mode, allowing users to scan objects up to multiple metres away.

There is no need for the classic built-in photogrammetry with coded markers and no compromise on accuracy. Another highlight is a red laser marker projected onto the components. This visual aid helps users to keep the perfect working distance while capturing data.

Its advanced technology allows the T-Scan hawk 2 to deliver high-precision data in any situation and at any moment. Operating with a seamless adjustment for resolution and field of view, it does the job, even in confined spaces or hard-to-reach areas.

The same applies to dark or shiny surfaces: the laser scanner is highly effective across a wide range of materials and surfaces, delivering highly precise 3D measurement data.

Zeiss T-Scan hawk 2 is ideal for industries such as automotive, shipping, rail, aerospace and the energy sector. It is also effective in mould and machining applications. Indoors or outdoors, the laser scanner can be transported in an easy to carry case, keeping everything compact and close to hand. Moreover, the case also houses additional tools like a hyperscale for fast re-calibration or a handy power delivery hub.
