North Sea focus on oil and gas

The oil and gas sector may be experiencing tough times for the subcontracting supply chain at the moment but the industry still has an important role for many precision manufacturers.

The Offshore Northern Seas Show (ONS 2016) held biannually in Stavanger, Norway is a major exhibition focusing on oil and gas as well as other elements of the energy sector. This year the event will be held from August 29th to September 1st.

The trade show is staged in 26,000m² of exhibition space and at its last outing attracted nearly 92,000 visitors, 1,392 exhibiting companies from 39 different nations.

The event, which started when oil was first discovered in the North Sea, has been running for more than 40 years and over that time it has evolved to include not only all aspects associated with the petrochemical and gas industry but also renewable energy systems such as wind power and solar energy.

ONS 2016 not only offers the usual networking opportunities found at trade shows there is also an extensive conference programme.

Major themes for this year’s conference presentations include: ‘Transition’, on topics such as Russian gas to Europe and the oil market outlook; ‘Long Term Perspectives’, on topics such as innovation in the energy value chain and operating in highly challenging environments and lastly ‘Energy Futures’ which includes topics such as disruptive trends, solar power and the sources of future energy demand.

Leif Johan Sevland, president and CEO of the event commented: “The ONS Conference will attract anyone who is interested in the future opportunities in energy. The topics cover international perspectives which will give delegates a broad understanding of the energy markets, major risk factors and measures for adapting to the new market reality.

“ONS aims to be forward looking, progressive and an important arena where different perspectives on the future of energy are presented and discussed. I am pleased to present a programme that makes this possible.”

At the end of each day the event concludes with a festival held in Stavanger harbour, where attendees can enjoy, food, entertainment and further informal networking opportunities.
