Okuma takes automation and robotics to AMB Stuttgart

Okuma Deutschland, the German representative for the Okuma Corporation in Japan, is bringing a wealth of metalworking technologies to the AMB exhibition in Stuttgart in September.

As well as the LU3000EX, an innovative machine tool for simultaneous 4-axis turning, Okuma is also demonstrating the LB3000 machine under the slogan ‘Our solution – Your success’ on its stand (Hall 10, Stand C71), a lathe which offers optimum automation opportunities in association with the Armroid jointed-arm robot.

“Three years after taking over the German dealership, we finally have the opportunity to welcome our customers and partners to an exhibition on behalf of Okuma Deutschland,” says managing director, Stefan Vielsaecker. “The whole team is looking forward to the event and doing all we can to ensure it’s a resounding success.”

Capable of highly productive 4-axis simultaneous machining, the Okuma LU3000EX turning centre, due to its heavy and robust construction, generously dimensioned flatbed guides and high-torque drives, is optimally suited for workpieces with a large length to depth ratios as well as for difficult to machine materials.

The lathe features two turrets that work synchronously with double feed or simultaneously. As a result, according to Okuma, cutting times can be reduced by up to 50% leading to a significant increase in productivity. The manufacturer says that the investment in the second turret usually pays for itself after around six months.

In addition, Okuma’s own OSP control system ensures easy operation and makes dialogue programming of the LU3000EX a simple process. Innovative technologies such as Thermo-Friendly Concept, ServoNavi and Machining Navi compensate for temperature fluctuations and vibration during machining.

With the LB3000 Armroid, Okuma Germany will be presenting a universal lathe with a fully integrated robot arm to visitors. The machine is particularly well suited to the production of universal turning parts and the complete machining of complex workpieces in small and medium batch sizes.

Combining it with the fully integrated Armroid jointed-arm robot enables automated operation, as the robot can load and unload the machine as well as perform other important additional tasks directly. User-friendly robot control with Okuma’s proven OSP control system automatically calculates the fastest collision-free path for the Armroid. This ensures maximum efficiency and optimal machine capacity utilisation.

In the UK, Okuma is represented by NCMT.
