On good form

Dawson Shanahan is continuing to expand its UK engineering facilities.

Precision cold forming specialist, Dawson Shanahan is continuing to expand its UK engineering facilities with the installation of a new Mazak CNC machining centre and high volume degreasing system for component preparation, handling and finishing.

The new machine systems are part of an ongoing programme of investment and expansion, which underpins Dawson Shanahan's long-term goal to grow organically by at least 15% year on year. Key to this growth is the company's export business to Europe, North America and the Far East, which currently accounts for around 85% of all orders.

“We have been extremely successful in winning orders for precision cold formed components from a variety of industry sectors, including automotive, power connectors and medical, in recent months,” explained joint managing director, Les Reeves,

“Much of the new business has come from customers in North America, for whom we ship parts to manufacturing plants around the world. The continued demand means that we need to expand our production capacity at both our principal engineering centre in Potters Bar and our satellite operation in Welshpool.”

The new Mazak horizontal milling machine is designed to ensure high levels of precision and repeatability and will be used both for finishing cold formed components and the manufacture of conventionally engineered parts. The new high volume degreasing system will extend Dawson Shanahan's existing part preparation and cleaning lines, enabling the company to improve throughput speeds.
