To increase the levels of support offered to customers, Brownhills, West Midlands-based subcontractor, Lodent Precision has appointed Simon Watts as engineering project manager to its operations.

Lodent director, Paul Riley explained: The appointment of a dedicated engineering project manager will enable us to understand our customer's requirements better and enhance our service offering which covers everything from tool design through to tool pass off and PPAP submissions.”

Mr Watts began an engineering apprenticeship in 1983 and college studies allied with an early introduction to CNC machining including 3D milling and wire erosion facilitated an invaluable knowledge of modern toolmaking and machining practices. Additional training and experience with CAD/CAM systems ultimately led Mr Watts into a tool design environment and for the past two years he has worked as a design engineer specialising in tool design for progression and transfer tooling applications.

“Having worked as a design engineer, I understand exactly what the customer requires,” he commented. “Previously my objective was the development of tooling to produce parts to the customer's specifications. My position at Lodent will allow me to use my previous experience, in conjunction with our customers' project engineers, to give a fully engineered solution in the shortest time possible.”

“As a company we are continually striving to be best in class,” Paul Riley concluded. “Simon's experience and know-how will be a very useful asset to our engineering support and this, coupled with our recent investment in a large scale CNC CMM capable of measuring parts 2,000mm x 1,000mm x 1,000mm will ensure this becomes a reality.

“We are able to use our customers' CAD data and inspect components produced on our tooling, against CAD designs for verification purposes,” he added. “We also have extensive CAD/CAM facilities onsite including Delcam, Lemoine, Mastercam and EZ-Cam. We can also accept Iges, dxf, dwg, Catia, Step and Stl data and are one of only a few toolmakers in the UK who can offer a total press tooling solution.”
