Phil Terry appointed sales director at TDT Machine Tools

TDT Machine Tools, the official UK & Ireland importer, sales distributor and service agent of leading international machine tool manufacturers that include Kafo, Feeler and Fidia, has named Phil Terry as its new sales director.

Mr Terry joins TDT following 32 years’ experience in the machine-tool industry at companies that include Cincinnati, Dugard and Mills CNC.

As a time-served apprentice, he started his career in the 1980s as an applications engineer at Cincinnati Milacron. He spent 15 years based at the company’s famous Erdington facility in the West Midlands, where machine tools were manufactured for more than 70 years.

His next challenge came at Dugard, where a 10-year tenure saw him switch from applications engineer to sales engineer, with responsibility for the Midlands area. In 2005, he took up employment at Mills CNC as business manager, again overseeing sales across the Midlands region. However, after 13 successful years, Mr Terry felt the time was right for a new challenge.

“Coming to TDT as sales director is an exciting opportunity, not just for me personally, but for the company, which is currently growing its profile across the UK. I bring more than 30 years of machine tool knowledge and experience to the role. Although brands such as Kafo, Feeler and Fidia are already known to the UK marketplace, it’s my ambition to ensure they become fully integrated. We want to be on the shortlist every time a manufacturer requires a new machine tool.”

Mr Terry suggests that markets such as oil and gas, which is steadily emerging from a period of suppression, is fuelling demand for twin-column, competitively priced machining centres such as those manufactured by Kafo. He similarly sees gains for Feeler, which produces high-specification, cost-effective turning machines with cross-market appeal.

Simon Hewson, managing director of TDT Machine Tools commented: “Phil has an impressive CV in our industry and we look forward to benefiting from his knowledge and sales expertise. He is very personable and will be able to establish close relationships with both existing and new customers, adding value and helping us to further strengthen our reputation and market share.”
