PwC has appointed Nick Atkin as leader of its industrial manufacturing, automotive and services practice.

A partner at PwC since 2009, Mr Atkin takes the helm as the sector continues to navigate challenges such as securing capital, decarbonisation of the value chain and developing the skills required for a new digital workplace.

The new appointee will lead the EMEA and UK practice following a 27-year-career in consulting where he led on large scale transformation projects, working with clients across the UK and globally. As an airline, transport and manufacturing specialist, Mr Atkin will bring his expertise in advising clients on areas spanning finance, HR and IT to operations, procurement and cloud adoption.

Mr Atkin said: "I am thrilled to be taking on this role at such a pivotal time for the sector. From ESG requirements to supply chain challenges, the industry and our clients play a critical role in how we as a country not only recover but thrive post the pandemic.

"This is no easy feat - for example, we know that there is no perfect solution to reducing carbon outputs but accelerating investment in tech to drive energy efficiency measures, reduce wastage and increase recycling of resources will have a significant impact.

"Similarly, the drive for increased digitisation means that there are untold benefits, not least in factory operations, but the future of manufacturing must be human-centric to genuinely make best use of advances.

"I look forward to supporting and working with not only our clients but my colleagues in what may be a demanding but also opportune time for the industry.”

Quentin Cole, leader of industries at PwC UK, added: “Nick brings with him proven knowledge and expertise of the industry, critical, given the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

“I know that he will build on the successful foundation he has already put in place, ensuring that as leader, his team will go on to offer the very best that they can to our clients.”

It's clear that supply chain resilience and meeting environmental targets top many agendas -  I believe that Nick and his team will play a crucial role in supporting our clients and the sector, truly meet these goals."
