RK founder passes away aged 89

RK International Machine Tools has announced the death of its founder Ray Schwarz aged 89 who passed away recently.

It is with much sadness that

Back in 1951, former RAF Spitfire pilot Mr Schwarz, along with his mother Kath, set-up RK Supply (Croydon) and using a combination of their respective christian name initials, the RK name was established. Initially based in Croydon, RK began by supplying small tools to industry, but after constant requests for quality used machines, Mr Schwartz led RK into the machine tool market.

The 1960s saw RK secure agencies for a number of leading global manufacturers, many of which RK still offer today. In those days, RK was one of over 30 distributors for the range of Colchester and Harrison machines. Today it is the sole remaining UK distributor.

Under Mr Schwarz's leadership, RK also produced its own surface and belt grinding machines. The Arkardia range bears the RK supply logo which although has evolved over the years, still resembles the current RK insignia.

In 1972, Mr Schwarz retired to Spain and son Mike took over as managing director. In 1999, John Schwarz became the third generation of the family to manage and steer the company into the new millennium.
