Robotic cast deburring

Fanuc's material removal solutions cover an extensive variety of applications, including robotic cast deburring seen in this demonstration.

Through the use of Fanuc iRVision, Fanuc robots provide real time error proofing, ensuring proper process and product quality.

In this demonstration, a Fanuc M-20iB/25 6-axis robot uses Fanuc iRVision to select a work piece from a pallet and places it onto a clamp for deburring. The robot then uses Image-to-Path software to develop a deburring path. Image-to-Path Software automatically generates edge deburring programs using Fanuc Roboguide Simulation Software and Fanuc iRVision. Designed as a deburring support tool, the Force Control Deburring Package allows manufacturers to easily adapt to casting variations in machined parts.

The system also utilises a robot-mounted Fanuc FS-40iA force sensor that is used to maintain a consistent force against the part as the robot moves the cutting tool along the path. The robot places the finished work piece on a pallet. Finally, the robot uses the force sensor and a gauge to check deburring tool wear and automatically exchanges worn cutting tools for new tools.

This demonstration highlights the Fanuc M-20iB/25 robot’s compact size and payload capabilities, its ability to handle two different work pieces, and automatic tool wear check and replacement for lights-out manufacturing.
