Yorkshire Forward has confirmed a £1.5 million grant to Metalysis, a technology innovator for the speciality metals industry. The award from the Regional Development Agency will help create 90 skilled jobs in the South Yorkshire region as the company gears up to develop a pioneering semi-continuous plant to produce titanium powders for worldwide markets.

The latest tranche of monies from the RDA under its Selective Finance for Investment scheme, supplements previous Inward Investment Grant funding from 2006.

Said Mark Bertolini, chief executive of Metalysis: “Yorkshire Forward has played a key role in enabling us to establish a commercial and core production hub here in South Yorkshire as we address lucrative markets around the world. The RDA has again given us essential financial support as we enter a critical project, by the end of which we expect at least another 90 people to be sharing in our continued progress.”

Simon Hill, executive director of business for Yorkshire Forward commented: “The Yorkshire Forward grant has secured the production of innovative products and entry into new markets for Metalysis. It will create 90 direct jobs for the industry, not to mention the positive impact on supply chains throughout the region. It will also further cement Yorkshire and Humber's already strong reputation in advanced manufacturing.”

The new jobs, which are a condition of funding by Yorkshire Forward, range from research scientists and process development engineers to production operatives and sales staff.

John Healey MP added:  "This is a fine example of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together. I have kept in touch with Metalysis since they made Wath-upon-Dearne their UK base and look forward to paying another visit to the company soon to hear more about their plans for continued investment and innovation."
