All round premium performer

The new Dah Lih MCV-720 from Ward Hi-Tech has now been introduced as a cost-effective all-rounder that offers speed, precision, rigidity and reliability.

The new MCV-720 has X-axis travels of 720mm and 460mm in Y that are both built on linear rails for improved speed. Additionally, the 510mm Z-axis adopts a box way construction for enhanced rigidity and precision.

The new offering has an 8,000rpm spindle with a 10,000rpm spindle as an option. The spindle has a BBT configuration that provides full face and taper contact to enhance toolholding precision, rigidity, repeatability and overall performance. With a direct drive spindle motor, rather than the more commonly used belt drive variants, the MCV720 is said to excel in torque, power, reliability and overall performance.

The new machine is supplied with a powerful Fanuc 0iD control unit with a manual guide system that suits manufacturers familiar with either G-code or conversational programming procedures.

For customers that generate large amounts of chips that need to be removed quickly from the work area, the MCV-720 has two swarf augers either side of the table as well as a large auger below the rear of the table to remove the swarf from the machining area.

This auger feeds two separate swarf outlets that remove chips from the machine efficiently. Swarf removal is also supported by a through coolant facility as well as flood coolant and an air blast that all contribute to dissipating the heat and swarf from the work area.

The ATC has 24 tool pockets with a random tool selection memory that reduces tool changeover times. Conducting a recent demonstration with a U-drill, the Dah Lih machine ran the drill at 1,400rpm with a feed rate of 200mm/minute to a 20mm depth of cut that was then followed by a 50mm diameter face mill at a 1,500rpm speed and a feed rate of 600mm/minute with a depth of cut at 5mm per pass on 316 stainless.

This demonstration emphasised the machine’s rigidity, speed, rapid tool change times and the excellent surface finishes that can only be derived from a robust machine tool.

As optional extras, Ward Hi-Tech can provide the new Dah Lih MCV-720 with fourth and fifth axis units for complex component manufacture. In addition, the machine tool specialist can offer tool and workpiece probing and measuring systems to enhance the precision and reduce the off-machine checking of parts.

The control unit is also offered with the option of Heidenhain or Fanuc control to suit the needs of the end user. The MCV-720 product is available from stock for immediate delivery, installation and training.
