Sandvik Coromant sponsors E&D zone at MACH 2022

Global metalcutting specialist Sandvik Coromant is sponsoring the Education and Development (E&D) Zone at MACH 2022. This marks the fifth occasion that the company has sponsored the zone, reinforcing its dedication to closing the engineering skills gap. The Zone can be found in Hall 17.

The E&D zone at MACH is the educational hub of the event. The space hosts apprentices and students and provides them with hands on engineering activities, educational seminars and guided tours of the exhibition. The Zone is an integral part of encouraging young people to visit MACH and the various co-located shows at the NEC during the same week; the Engineering Supply Chain Show, Plant & Asset Management, Air-Tech, Drives & Controls and the Smart Industry Expo.

The engineering skills shortage in the UK is well documented. Over 50% of engineering firms find it difficult to recruit and retain staff and the Government is investing millions of pounds into science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education. Exposing young people to the engineering sector and the potential career paths in engineering is a crucial method of building a pipeline of future engineers. The E&D zone at MACH aims to support these efforts.

A crucial part of the E&D zone is guided tours of the exhibition. As part of these tours, students will learn more about the latest engineering technologies being developed and deployed in the UK industry and learn about potential career paths. In fact, the E&D zone even provides guidance on the engineering companies that are recruiting UK apprentices.

“Sandvik Coromant understands the importance of encouraging more young talent into engineering,” explained Kim Olander, marketing manager for the UK and Ireland at Sandvik Coromant.

“While we sponsor the E&D zone, we will be joined at the stand by exhibitors from Airbus Defence and Space, F1 in Schools, the University of Wolverhampton Racing Team and many others to demonstrate the breadth of opportunities within engineering.”

Schools and students are encouraged to register their interest in attending the E&D zone in advance on the MACH website. Likewise, parents and guardians are welcomed to register interest to attend the show – students aged between 11 and 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
