Schunk & Walter to host AMRC Aerospace Machining Event

Schunk will be hosting a customer innovation day in collaboration with Walter Cutting Tools at the Knowledge Transfer Centre (KTC) in Sheffield.

The event is the ideal opportunity for manufacturers specialising in the aerospace sector to witness best practice 5-axis workholding and machining via both presentations and practical shop floor demonstrations.

As part of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), the KTC is a leading establishment for high-value manufacturing events and the ideal setting for two technology leading brands to present their latest aerospace innovations. The event will open at 9.30 to 10am and will be followed by presentations from both Schunk and Walter. The introductory presentations will be followed by a Schunk presentation on the latest Vero-S Aviation modular clamping system for aerospace structural components.

The Schunk quick-change Vero-S pallet system is an efficient workpiece clamping system; now the Schunk Vero-S Aviation has been developed to enable users to benefit from reducing set-up costs with structural components too. It enables aerospace manufacturers to drastically reduced set-ups due to controlled flexibility.

The Schunk Vero-S Aviation clamping units enable the rapid and efficient adjustment of the entire clamping set-up by means of a special bearing from the Vero-S quick-change pallet system. The clamping unit bearing is unclamped by spring force. To relieve the component, it is pneumatically released and the mounted quick-change pallet system can compensate in various degrees of freedom.

This can relieve the part of stress, the set-up is flexibly adapted and there is no need for an additional set-up. By venting, the bearing of the clamping unit is unclamped in the current relieved position. The part can then be further processed.

Upon completion of the presentations and lunch, delegates will transfer to the Factory of the Future machine shop where the Schunk Vero-S Aviation will be clamping aerospace components and demonstrating its potential in conjunction with AMRC machine tools and Walter cutting tools. With demonstrations of HPC machining, process strategies and structural tooling programs, the event is a must attend for manufacturers working in the aerospace industry.
