Sending the right signals

By the close of play with several orders in hand totalling over £250,000 and more than 400 enquiries to follow up, XYZ Machine Tools was already describing the MACH 2010 exhibition as a success.

“This has been a tremendous team effort,” said Nigel Atherton, managing director, “and it is a result that I hope signals the start of something positive in terms of the UK climbing out of recession.”

The major focus of attention was the main XYZ stand, where the new XYZ TC320 LTY turning centre was making its first appearance and the new mid-range XYZ 1020 VMC was catching the eye of visitors who were able to see every working part in action as this new machine ran through a complete machining program. This demonstrated how the latest Siemens 828D SL CNC system interacts with every element of a modern day machine tool to provide direct drive five-axis capability.

Although best known for its ProtoTRAK-equipped CNC/manual milling machines and lathes and its Siemens-equipped machining centres and turning centres, the decision to exhibit an XYZ 1020 hydraulically powered surface grinder in the Grinding Zone directed visitors' attention to a rather less well-known element of the Burlescombe, Devon company's product range. This portfolio ranges from manual machine tools through to large capacity CNC bridge mills and extra large (up to 12m between centres) CNC lathes and CNC oil country lathes with a 410mm spindle bore, all backed by a full warranty and nationwide service.
