Sheffield’s SCX wins national business award

Sheffield-based SCX group, which specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of specialist mechanical handling and lifting solutions, has won the Innovation Award at the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards 2019.

The flagship national awards, held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London each year, honour the UK’s most creative and innovative businesses which set new standards of excellence within their industries.

SCX was established in 1972 to maintain and repair cranes and hoists and has evolved to become a leading mechanical handling specialist. SCX has been responsible for the design and construction of retractable roofs at Wimbledon’s Centre and No.1 Courts, the removable racetrack at Royal Ascot and recently the design and installation of the world’s first dividing retractable football pitch at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium in North London.

In other sectors, SCX has fitted cranes to the Royal Navy’s latest aircraft carriers, designed decommissioning cranes for the Dounreay nuclear power plant and developed robotic lifting platforms for London’s Crossrail project.

Commenting on the award-winning achievement, Darren Falkingham, group marketing manager at SCX said: “This is a fantastic award to win and it means so much to us. We have a truly world-class team at SCX and this accolade recognises their engineering expertise, their commitment and their natural ability to innovate. Being recognised by the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards will help us to promote SCX to a wider audience, not just in the UK but to international markets.”

The judges commented: “The innovative solutions devised by the SCX team stand out on a world stage. Their engineering skills push every boundary and make a real difference to their clients. Congratulations to the whole team.”
