Monchengladbach, Germany-based Rhenus Lub, manufacturer of amine and boric acid free metalworking lubricants and high performance greases has announced CIS (Carillon Industrial Supplies) as its new UK partner.

Rhenus Lub is a family owned company and has been manufacturing amine and boric acid free metalworking lubricants and high performance greases since 1882 Its metalworking fluids are approved by Rolls-Royce and Airbus. CIS was established over 30 years ago and has locations in Cambridgeshire and Buckinghamshire with a sales network covering the length and breadth of the UK.

One company recently introduced to Rhenus and now enjoying significant process cost reductions is a major UK crankshaft manufacturer. It was experiencing problems with an existing metalworking fluid which adversely affected the manufacturing process in terms of poor tool life, quality issues, product rework and increasing process costs.

The company's manufacturing engineer was aware of Rhenus' claims regarding enhanced productivity and arranged a trial on one of its machines – a Daewoo machining centre – using r.rhenus FU 60T – a highly lubricated non-oil ester-based emulsion.

The results spoke for themselves with the FU 60T producing an increase in tool life of 35% over when compared to the existing metalworking fluid. It ran at a lower concentration and top up percentage and proved to be superior in stability so sump life was significantly extended. Additionally, rework was reduced to zero as there were no broken threading tools. The product, being amine free, is better for the operator and a reduced ph is less harmful to the skin.
