ISO 14001 approved West Midlands-based recycling and waste management specialists WH Marren has announced an ambitious expansion plan following a £1 million investment in fleet and machinery.

This follows a succession of contract wins with blue chip automotive OEMs that utilise WH Marren's total waste management expertise in order to reduce costs and maximise efficiency. Such success has led to the firm announcing its presence at this year's MACH exhibition. The company is delivering new infrastructure and investment to meet new business opportunities and capacity, and to set-up store for future growth.

“We have invested some £1 million into two new Leibherr cranes and five new vehicles,” explains managing director, Jon Marren. “This investment has been taking place throughout 2013/14 and we are now taking delivery of the sixth vehicle in April.

“All this is on the back of winning new contracts and on the number of orders we are fulfilling. It's an obvious move to put money back into strengthening our capacity to ensure that we can continue to take on new business and support the reprocessing economy in this part of the world.”

Trading since 1906, WH Marren specialises in the acquisition, processing and distribution of ferrous and non-ferrous metals ready for the manufacture of new goods. As the importance of environmental sustainability and the renaissance of UK manufacturing continues to rise, the company is playing an important role adding value within the supply chains of some of the UK's leading manufacturers.

“Often UK materials end up in far off places like China for recycling so it's positive to see a homegrown business offering the environmental advantages of processing on UK shores,” Mr Marren adds. “Much of our work is in with the automotive sector. We have also taken on two new drivers and we are continuing to build the service-based contracts which we are establishing with many local general engineering firms.”

The influx of new work represents a significant expansion for the company which passes the metal it collects onto foundries which then convert it into new materials, ready for use in end products.

“We offer a 24 hour collection promise.” Mr Marren affirms. “If customers call us before 1pm we'll be there the next day to pick up the materials. Offering this level of reliability is a real selling point for us. We can also offer site surveys and other ways to help build the revenue of the companies that we work with. We are always seeking ways to help reduce costs for our partners and to reduce waste as well. It's all part of the overarching, holistic service that we offer.”
