Southern Engineering Equipment: going the extra mile

Southern Engineering Equipment (S.E.E.) based in Poole, Dorset, is a supplier of new and used machinery, service, parts and consumables.

The company acts as exclusive UK and Eire agents for a number of premium machine tool brands from across the globe including Euro Fintec, Gecam, Kef Motor, Kuhlmeyer, Lissmac and PEMTec.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected many companies, making conventional ways of doing business far more challenging. However as S.E.E.’s managing director John Spiers explained, a flexible approach often pays dividends.

“During the Covid-19 shutdown while working remotely I was able to secure the sale of a new Lissmac SMD 123 RE deburring/edge rounding/surface finishing machine along with a Lissmac WDE 3000 ECO wet dust extractor to Clonakilty Engineering based in Southern Ireland,” he said.

“Due to having no commercial flights into Ireland and the customer keen for the machine to be operational as quickly as possible, we had to produce a plan for the installation and commissioning of the Lissmac machine as well as operator training. We sent the machine installation layout drawing to Clonakilty.

He continues: “Whilst the customer was happy to connect the SMD123 RE to the wet dust extraction system himself, the difficulty was the commissioning and operator training. We got around the problem by agreeing to remotely commission and train the operators in the safe use of the machine.

“This was a first for Lissmac, but due to the circumstances during these difficult times and the customer’s enthusiasm to get the machine into production, Lissmac designed a programme of training specifically for Clonakilty,” Mr Spiers affirmed.

“The client set-up a laptop next to the machine and a seven hour video conference call began, covering all aspects of commissioning and operator training. The customer was very happy – it’s all about going the extra mile in these challenging conditions.”
